Materials
- 50g - 60 g of Worsted/ Aran weight Cotton Yarn.
I have used 1 skein (50g) of Paintbox Cotton Aran yarn (100% cotton) for the green dishcloth and 57g ofDrops Paris yarn (100% cotton) for the pink dishcloth - Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- 4 stitch markers
Gauge
16 sts and 11 rows = 4” x 4” in pattern stitch
Finished Size
Approx. 9” square (including border)
Stitches and Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch = chain
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- hdc = half double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Special Stitch
Back Crossed Half Double Crochet (bcr hdc):
Skip 1 st, work 1 hdc into the next st, then work 1 hdc back into the skipped st, going behind the last hdc just made so as not to catch it, inserting the hook from front to back of the work.
1 bcr hdc is made over 2 sts.
Note: The Back Crossed Hdc row is worked on the wrong side of the work. The stitches will pop on the other side of the work, which will be the right side.

How to Crochet The Back Crossed Half Double Crochet Stitch + Textured Stitch Pattern
Dishcloth Instructions
Foundation: Ch 33
Row 1 (RS): Working into back bumps behind the chains, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook and 1 hdc in each ch across; ch 1, turn.
(32 sts)
Row 2 (WS): 1 hdc in first st, work bcr hdc across the row to the last st, 1 hdc in last st; ch 1, turn.
(Total: 32 sts = 1 hdc + 15 bcr hdc + 1 hdc)
Note: This row is worked on the wrong side of the work. The crossed stitches will pop on the other side, which will be the right side.
Row 3 (RS): 1 hdc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
(32 sts)
Rows 4–21: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you have 21 rows total, ending with a Row 3 (RS).
Note: The right side of the work is the side where the crossed stitches are visible and pop out.

Border
Round 1 (Setup Round – RS)
After completing Row 21 (RS), do not fasten off.
Ch 1. Do not turn.
Rotate your work 90° clockwise to begin working along the left side edge.
Work around as follows:
- Work 30 sc evenly along the side edge.
- Work 3 sc in the first stitch of the foundation chain (corner).
- Work 1 sc in each stitch across the bottom edge, ending with 3 sc in last st (corner). Rotate your work 90° clockwise to continue along the side edge.
- Work 30 sc evenly along the side edge.
- Work 3 sc in the first stitch of the top edge (corner). Rotate your work 90° clockwise to continue across the top edge.
- Work 1 sc in each next stitch across the top edge, ending with 3 sc in last st for the final corner.
Join with a slip stitch to the first sc made at the beginning of the round.
Place a stitch marker into the center stitch of each 3 sc corner, as seen in the picture below.
Stitch count: Each side has 32 sts between the marked corner stitches.
Round 2 (Crossed HDC Border – WS)
Turn your work so that the wrong side is facing you.
You will now be working this round on the wrong side.
Ch 1.
Skip the first stitch (the one at the base of the join), work 1 hdc in next st, then work 1 hdc in the skipped st inserting the hook from front to back (this forms a back crossed hdc).
- In the marked corner stitch, work 3 hdc.
- *Work bcr hdc across to the next marked corner stitch.*
- In the marked corner stitch, work 3 hdc.
- Repeat from * to * around, working the crossed hdc pattern across each side and 3 hdc in each corner.
Cut yarn and join with an invisible join to the first hdc.
Stitch count: Each side has 16 bcr hdc between the corner stitches.
Weave in all ends.
Turn your dishcloth to the right side and enjoy the beautiful textured stitches on the front.
