I have designed these baby booties with a baby boy on my mind (for my baby nephew on the way), but if you would use pink (or other girlie colors) instead of blue, the booties would be perfect for a baby girl as well.
You could also embellish them with crochet flower appliques or some cute buttons!

The booties are worked from the cuff down and they are easy to crochet.
Once you will finish with the knit-look crochet ribbing, the booties will work up fast.

    INSTRUCTIONS BOOTIES:

    (Make two!)

    CUFF:

For the cuff I have used my favorite knit-look crochet ribbing worked with a special stitch that I call the yarn over slip stitch worked into back loops only (yo-slst-blo), aka the slipped half double crochet back loops only.

If you don’t find this stitch easy to work up, you can choose another type of ribbing, for example using the single crochet worked into back loops only (sc blo). It will not look quite the same and the feel will be a bit different.

With yarn color A and a 4 mm crochet hook Ch 15.

Row 1: work into back bumps of chains, 1 yo-slst into 2nd ch from hook, 1 yo-slst into each ch to last ch, 1 yo-slst across; ch 1; turn. (15 sts)

    Rows 2- 23: 1 yo-slsl-blo in each st across (15 sts).
Do not cut yarn! Continue with the leg!

    The Cuff

    LEG:

Turn to work along the long side of the cuff.

Row 1 (RS): ch 1, work 23 sc evenly placed along long side of cuff (1 sc into each peak and 1 sc into each valley of the ribbing).
    Ch 1, Turn.(23 sts)

Row 2 (WS): 1 sc in first st, *ch 1, sk next st, 1 sc in next st* repeat from * to* across ending the row with a sc in last st; ch1, turn. (12 sc + 11 ch 1 spaces)
Note: The ch 1 spaces will be used at the end to weave the ties through.

Row 3 (RS): 1 sc in each sc and 1 sc in each ch1 space. Cut yarn leaving a long tail that will be used later to sew the sides up. (23 sts)

    INSTEP:

With RS facing skip the first 8 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Join B with a ssc into 9th. st, work 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, leave the remaining sts of leg unworked; ch1, turn (7 sts)

Rows 2- 5: 1 sc in each st of next 7 sts, ch 1, turn. (7sts)

Row 6 (WS): sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, sc2tog; ch 1, turn. (5 sts)

Row 7 (RS): sc in each st. Cut yarn. Fasten off. (5 sts)

    Instep

    FOOT:

Row 1: With RS of work facing, join B with ssc at center back (into the first st of last row of leg part made with yarn color A).
Work 1 sc in each of next 7 sts along the leg,
    1 sc in same st as the first sc from row 1 of instep;
turn to work along the side of the instep 6 sts evenly placed,
2 sc into corner st of instep,
1 sc in each of next 3 sts of the instep,
2 sc into next corner st of instep,
turn to work along the other side of instep 6 sts evenly placed,
1 sc into last st of instep row 1,
1 sc in each of next 8 sts.
    Chain 1, turn.
    (8+ 1+6+2+3+2+6+1+8= 37 sts)

    Foot row 1

Row 2 (WS): 1 hdc in each st across; ch 1, turn. ( 37 sts)

Row 3 (RS): 1 scblo in each st across; ch1, turn. (37 sts)

Row 4 (WS): 1 sc in each st across, changing to color A when yarning over at last sc; ch1, turn. (37 sts)

Row 5 (RS): with A work 1 sc in each st across; ch1, turn (37 sts)

    SOLE:

Place a stitch marker into the 19th st; this will mark the middle of toe.

    Bootie Sole

From now on, you will carry the st marker up from row to row, marking each time the middle st.
To shape the sole, all the next rows will be made decreases at the beg of rows, in the middle and at the end of the rows.

Row 6 (WS): Work sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 14 sts, sc2tog, 1 sc into marked st, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 14 sts, sc2tog; ch1, turn. (33 sts)

Row 8: (WS): Work sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 10 sts, sc2tog, 1 sc into marked st, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 10 sts, sc2tog; ch1, turn. (25 sts)
    You have decreased 4 sts!

Row 9: (RS): Work sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, sc2tog, 1 sc into marked st, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, sc2tog; ch1, turn. (21 sts)
    You have decreased 4 sts!
Cut yarn leaving a long tail that you will use for slip stitching the sole sides together.

    Bootie decreses

Before joining the sole, it's the time to embellish the booties with surface crochet slip stitches!
(Or you can also leave the bootie as is and continue finishing the booties.)

    SURFACE CROCHET EMBELLISHMENT:

With A work surface crochet slst loosely around the instep; cut yarn, fasten off.

    Surface Crochet around instep

With A work surface crochet slst loosely just below the scblo row (row 3 from leg); cut yarn, fasten off.

    Surface crochet around bootie

    FINISHING:

Turn the bootie inside out and slip stitch the sole sides together, inserting hook into furthest loop from you on the first side and the closest loop from you on the other side.

    Finishing crochet booties

Use the yarn ends to sew along the foot and cuff ribbing, using yarn color A for bootie section crocheted with color A; use yarn color B for bootie section crocheted with yarn color B.
    Weave in all ends.

    TIES:

Chain 80. Cut yarn. Fasten off. With the help of a safety pin weave the ties through the small holes around the ankle. Make a small knot at each end of the ties to secure.
    And you're done!
