Neon Lights Cowl - Free Crochet Pattern + Chart

Worked with super bulky Red Heart Mixology yarns, the Neon Lights Cowl is a warm and comfy cowl that can be worn rolled over as pictured below. This cowl works up really fast! Perfect for busy moms like me.

I love the look of the variegated Mixology Party Prints combined with a strong contrasting dark Mixology Solid yarn. (UPDATE 2018: These yarns are discontinued!)

You can also blend the colors together using coordinating solids, as used for the toddler size cowl below, worked with Mixology Party Prints and pink Mixology Solids.

This pattern would also look great using solid colors only.

Neon Lights Cowl  Pattern

Sizes:

toddler: 26 cm across and 16 cm from top to botton

adult woman: 36 cm across and 34 cm from top to bottom

You can easily change the size; for example to make a larger size, begin with more foundation chains (the total number of stitches should be a multiple of 2) and working more rounds to make it taller.

Gauge: is not critical for this project

Materials used:
- 200 g of Red Heart Mixology Solids, for adult size and approx. 100 g for the toddler size
- 1 skein (140 g) of Red Heart Mixology Prints was enough to make the stripes of both adult and toddler cowls.
- 10 mm crochet hook
- large eye yarn needle
- scissors

Stitches, Terms (US) and Abbreviations:
- ch: chain

- sk: skip

- ch 1 sp: chain one space

- sl st : slip stitch

- yo: yarn over

- st: stitch

- beg. beginning

- * to * , repeat the sequence of stitches between the stars

- back bump of chain - click here for my tutorial

Special Stitch: The Extended Single Crochet (ext sc) = Insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 1 loop on hook, yo, pull through both loops on hook.

You can watch below the video made by Tamara from Moogly blog to learn how to crochet the extended single crochet stitch:

Note:
How to change colors: work last st of round to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and complete the st by drawing through all loops on hook.
Do not cut yarn when changing colors! Carry color not in use up side of piece, every round twisting the yarns on the wrong side of work to prevent long loops.

Stripe sequence: work 2 rounds with solid color and 1 round with variegated yarn.
