bpdc: back post double crochet
fpdc dec: front post double crochet decrease
bpdc dec: back post double crochet decrease
yo: yarn over
st: stitch

1) Front post double crochet decrease:
 (See photo collage below!)
yo, insert the hook from the front to the back around the post of the first st,
yo, pull a loop through; you have now 3 loops on hook;
yo, pull through first 2 loops on hook; you have now 2 loops on hook;
leaving the 2 loops on the hook, yo, insert hook from the front to the back around the post of the next st,
yo and pull a loop through; you have now 4 loops on hook;
yo, pull through first 2 loops on hook; you have now 3 loops on hook;
yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

2) Back post double crochet decrease
(See photo collage below!)
You'll make the same steps as for the fpdc dec, the only difference is that you will insert the hook from back to front around the post of the stitches!
Bbdc:
yo, insert the hook from the back to the front around the post of the first st;
yo, pull a loop through; you have now 3 loops on hook;
yo, pull through first 2 loops on hook; you have now 2 loops on hook;
leaving the 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook from the back to the front around the post of the next st,
yo and pull a loop through; you have now 4 loops on hook;
yo, pull through the first 2 loops on hook; you have now 3 loops on hook;
yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

3) Combined decrease 1 fpdc with 1 bpdc
(See photo collage below!)
This is a combined decrease of front post and back post stitches:
yo, insert the hook from the front to the back around the post of first stitch
yo, pull  loop through; you have now 3 loops on hook;
yo, pull through first 2 loops on hook; you have now 2 loops on hook;
leaving the 2 loops on the hook, yo, insert hook from the back to the front around the post of the next st,
yo and pull a loop through; you have now 4 loops on hook;
yo, pull through the first 2 loops on hook; you have now 3 loops on hook;
yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

4)  Combined decrease 1 bpdc with 1 fpdc
Make the same steps as for the other combined decrease, just start with the back post, than the front post double crochet.

I have used this kind of decreases in my pattern Swirling Ribs Crochet Hat, worked from the bottom up and decreased at the the top.
