Join As You Go (JAYG) C2C Forest Animals Blanket CAL | General Informations & Supplies Needed

Let’s crochet a beautiful Corner to Corner (C2C) Forest Animals Blanket using the Continuous Join As You Go C2C Method (JAYG)!

This free Crochet-Along (CAL) features 9 adorable woodland animal blocks and a customizable name panel, all joined seamlessly as you work — no sewing required!

Instead of making separate C2C animal squares and stitching them together at the end, we’ll build the blanket panel by panel, joining each block as we go. The result? A beautifully structured blanket that looks like it was worked in one piece. Total game changer!

Join this free CAL and discover how fun and satisfying JAYG C2C crochet can be!

This JAYG Corner to Corner crochet blanket includes the following woodland animals: rabbit, deer, hedgehog, raccoon, lynx, wolf, owl, fox and bear.

I originally designed this blanket for my 9-year-old daughter, Elisa. Together we created a list of her favorite forest animals to include in her very own personalized blanket.

You can watch the full presentation video of the finished blanket below the Supplies section to see all the details up close.

Some of the animal designs are brand new, while others are updated versions from my Wildlife Graphghan Series — redesigned especially for the Join As You Go method.

In the past, I created my C2C wildlife blankets by working separate blocks and sewing them together at the end. While the result was beautiful, sewing all the blocks together wasn’t my favorite part! That’s why I developed this continuous JAYG method — to make the process smoother, faster, and more enjoyable.

(JAYG) C2C Forest Animals Blanket CAL | General Information

The advantage of the Continuous JAYG C2C Method is that you still focus on one animal block at a time (which means fewer color changes to manage), but the finished blanket looks seamless — especially if you choose one consistent background color.

Of course, you can also use different background colors for each block if you prefer a more playful look!

Once the final panel is complete, all you need to do is add an edging around the blanket — and you're done. No assembling. No sewing blocks together. Yay!

Tip: Weave in your ends immediately after finishing each animal block. This prevents the overwhelming task of weaving everything in at the very end. (For me, weaving each block took about 30–40 minutes.)

Not Ready for the JAYG Method Yet?

No worries! Although this CAL uses the Join As You Go technique, you can absolutely work each animal block separately and join them later using your preferred method — sewing or slip stitching.

That said… I truly encourage you to try the JAYG method at least once. It might just become your new favorite way to make C2C blankets!

Blanket Construction

JAYG C2C Forest Animals blanket layout with numbered blocks 1–10 showing the order of working the animal squares

The blanket begins at the bottom right corner with the first animal block (the Rabbit C2C Square).

Each animal block is started in its own bottom right corner and worked diagonally toward the top left.

After completing the first block, the second animal block is built directly onto the left side of the first one using the Join As You Go method, following the graph for the Deer C2C Square.

The third animal block is then joined to the left side of the second block. These three animals form the bottom panel of the blanket.

Using the same technique, the second panel begins by joining the fourth animal block to the top of the first block. The fifth block is joined to the left of the fourth block and above the second block. The sixth block is joined to the left of the fifth block and above the third block.

Repeat this process for the third panel (animals 7–9), working from right to left.

The fourth and final panel is the customizable name panel. If you prefer, you can replace it with additional animal blocks — for example, designs from my Wildlife Graphghan Series.

MY BLANKET FINISHED SIZE :

47.5 inches wide X 63 inches high (121 cm x 160 cm)

To make a smaller blanket with 4 animal blocks (baby-toddler blanket size) work 2 animals in a row and 2 rows.

If you want a larger blanket you can add 4 animals into each panel × 5 panels.

Block Size

Each C2C Animal Block measures approx. 14–15 in (36–38 cm) square, unblocked.

Small variations are normal due to differences in yarn thickness between colors and individual tension.

The JAYG C2C Name Panel is a c2c rectangle, 75 pixels wide × 25 pixels high and it measures about 46.5 inches × 15 inches (118 cm × 39 cm).

If you prefer you can leave the name panel out and add 3 additional animal blocks (from my Wildlife Graphghan Series).

GAUGE:

7 C2C tiles X 7 c2c tiles = 10 x 10 cm (4 inches x 4 inches)
