Orang-Utan C2C Square - Free Crochet Pattern + Graph | Wildlife Graphghan Block 21

Have you followed along with the Wildlife Graphghan Crochet-along?
It was so much fun! So many crocheters made wonderful blankets and shared their pictures on social media! I have enjoyed seeing each and every one of them!

Many of you, dear followers, wrote to me saying how much you enjoyed the animals and that you were sad as the Crochet-along ended.
I have great news for you! New animals designs are coming! That's right!
We are going wild again! :) You will have more animals to choose from, to mix and match the way you like, maybe sort them by habitat, etc.

The first new addition to the series is this crazy cute Orang-Utan! I hope you will love it!

Crochet Hook provided by Furls Crochet.

Why an Orang-Utan first? I wanted to use up the orange yarn - the Red Heart Super Saver, Pumpkin colorway - left from the Lava Fox C2C Square. That was the only square using that color.

The background made in colorway Frosty Green it's a bit faded, but you can use a more contrasting color if you like.

The Orang-Utan Corner to Corner (C2C) Square it's a free crochet pattern that you can find right here on My Hobby is Crochet blog!

This free crochet pattern includes written row by row instructions for color counts follow with color pixel graph below.

For detailed instructions and video tutorials for the corner to corner method with the half double crochet used + crisp color changes, check out the CAL Page!

GAUGE: 6 C2C tiles = 10 x 10 cm (4 inches x 4 inches)

SIZE: the square is 25 tiles x 25 tiles and approx. measures approx. 15.5 inches X 15.5 inches (40 cm x 40 cm)

1. You will use the C2C with the hdc, working the square on the diagonal starting from bottom right corner to top left.

Orang- Utan C2C Square- work in progress

2. The even rows will be worked on the right side of work.

3. The uneven rows will be on the wrong side of work.

4. On the graphic you will read the even rows from top to bottom ↙ and the uneven rows from bottom to top ↗!

5. The first row with color changes (Row 9) it's an uneven row, so you will be working on the wrong side of work! That means that you will have to place the yarn strands to the front of your work!

6. For the even rows (right side) you will place the yarns to the back of the work!

- RS: right side
- WS: wrong side

Color abbreviations: (See the color legend in the graph at the end of this post)

  • gr = Frosty Green - this is the background color - if you like, you can replace it with any contrasting color of your choice
  • p= Pumpkin
  • cl= Cafe Latte
  • a= Aran
  • bf= Buff
  • bl= Black

  1. Oh how sweet. So happy that you are going to be adding more animals. These are so adorable. Thank you for sharing your time, your patterns and your creativity.

    1. I'm glad you like it Terri! Please enjoy the patterns! And please share pictures of your own animal blocks on social media. Thanks! Kinga

  2. Oh Kinga, it is so nice of you to add the line by line written instructions! They are so much easier to follow than the graph itself. Thank you!!

    1. You're very welcome Deb!:)Please enjoy and share pictures of your animal blocks, if you'll make them!

  3. Love the new pattern for this series. Cant wait to see more. My granson is going to lose his mind when he sees all these animals 😍

    1. Hi, I'm very glad you like it! I would love to "hear" what your grandson says about the animals! :)

  4. Hi, Kinga, thanks for continue of these animals. I have 3 G.G.Sons, between 4-13, and each has a blanket with these. I was wondering if you would consider doing appliques of your animals ?
I am looking to make a blanket, but the appliques I have seen so far are too baby like.
I need the whole animal, and more life like. I love your bear head, but I'm not good with putting the rest of it to him. Thank you for your fantastic talent given so freely.

    1. Hi Edith, I don't have much experience with appliques. Have you seen the ones from Golden Lucy Crafts? She has lovely appliques.

  5. I love your animal c2c patterns. I would like to request a rhino pattern. I belong to a Facebook group called Blankets for Baby Rhinos and we would appreciate this pattern.

    1. Hi, I will see what I can do! I hope it will work! :)Kinga

  6. Hi Kinga! Thank you for visiting and linking up at our weekly Link Party last week! I am excited to see which animals you make this time round - they are a fantastic way to practice C2C crochet and will make great projects like pillows and afghans for both boys and girls! You are being featured at Wednesday Link Party 356 tomorrow! If you'd like to share the feature here is the link to tomorrow's post: https://oombawkadesigncrochet.com/2020/07/lemon-drop-top-vintage-wrap-dress-and-c2c-square.html All the best, Rhondda
