Hippo C2C Square - Free Crochet Pattern + Graph | Wildlife Graphghan CAL Block 23

Welcome to another animal block of the Widlife Graphghan CAL!
So many of my followers requested for it! And... Ta-daah! :)
I am so happy to introduce you my latest creation, the Hippo C2C Square!
After countless hours of designing, I think it came out pretty amazing! On that light blue background, it seems like the hippo head is just coming out of the water, isn't it?
How do you find him? I hope you will love it as much as I do!

To make this corner to corner animal block/ square, you will need the following:

SUPPLIES :

  • yarn: Red Heart Super Saver ( yarn weight: Medium 4) in 9 colors:
    1. Light Blue for the background approx. 176.07 yds (161 m)
    2. Charcoal approx. 84.2 yds (77m)
    3. Oatmeal approx. 20.77 yds (19 m)
    4. Black approx. 6.56 yds (6 m)
    5. Gray Heather approx. 36.63 yds (33.5 m)

    7. Warm Brown approx. 3.28 yds (3 m)
    8. (NOTE: This colorway that I have used for hippo’s eyes it is discontinued. I have used the leftovers from my stash. You could replace it with other light brown color, such as the Cafe Latte, that is a bit darker.)
    9. Aran approx. 1.09 yds (1 m)
    10. White approx. 1.09 yds (1 m)
  • 5.5 mm crochet hook (I have used Furls Wooden Hook, Cocobolo)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

GAUGE: 6 C2C tiles = 10 x 10 cm (4 inches x 4 inches)

SIZE: the square is 25 tiles x 25 tiles and approx. measures approx. 15 inches X 15 inches (38 cm x 38 cm)

NOTES:
1. You will use the C2C with the hdc, working the square on the diagonal starting from bottom right corner to top left.

Hippo C2C Square- work in progress

2. The even rows will be worked on the right side of work.

3. The uneven rows will be on the wrong side of work.

4. On the graphic you will read the even rows from top to bottom ↙ and the uneven rows from bottom to top ↗!

5. The first row with color changes (Row 9) it's an uneven row, so you will be working on the wrong side of work! That means that you will have to place the yarn strands to the front of your work!

6. For the even rows (right side) you will place the yarns to the back of the work!

ABBREVIATIONS:
- RS: right side
