Crochet Hook provided by Furls Crochet.
The pattern for the Giraffe C2C Square includes written row by row instructions for color counts follow with color pixel graph below.
For detailed instructions and video tutorials for the corner to corner method with the half double crochet used + crisp color changes, check out the CAL Page!
I love this giraffe so much, that I’m thinking (maybe someday in the future) to design a baby blanket featuring a giraffe in it’s whole. What do you think? Would you like that?
I am having so much fun crocheting my corner to corner animal designs! How about you? Are you enjoying the Wildlife Graphghan CAL as much as I do?
At this stage, having 9 c2c animal squares finished, you could theoretically join them and make a toddler blanket!
But the CAL is going on with more animal blocks! We have a lot of work in front of us! At least I have! :) I want this blanket to be huge, to snuggle up on the couch with my kids when we watch tv together. You are welcome to make as many animal blocks as you want for your blanket.
Now let's see what supplies we need for the Giraffe!
SUPPLIES used:
- yarn: Red Heart Super Saver ( yarn weight: Medium 4) in 7 colors:
- Spring Green for the background approx. 158.6 yds (145 m)
- Black approx. 8.75 yds (8 m)
- Coffee approx. 14.21 yds (13 m)
- Cafe Latte approx. 24.06 yds (22 m)
- Warm Brown approx. 64.5 yds (59 m)
- Buff approx. 14.76 yds (13.5 m)
- Aran approx. 57.41 yds (52.5 m)
- 5.5 mm crochet hook (I have used Furls Wooden Hook, Cocobolo)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
GAUGE: 6 C2C tiles = 10 x 10 cm (4 inches x 4 inches)
SIZE: the square is 25 tiles x 25 tiles and approx. measures approx. 14.5 inches X 14.5 inches (37 cm x 37 cm)
NOTES:
1. You will use the C2C with the hdc, working the square on the diagonal starting from bottom right corner to top left.
2. The even rows will be worked on the right side of work.
3. The uneven rows will be on the wrong side of work.
4. On the graphic you will read the even rows from top to bottom ↙ and the uneven rows from bottom to top ↗!
5. The first color changes happens already in the 2nd. row, an even row.
7. There are some parts in the pattern (for example the black nose hole on the left) where you have to make some little tricks to connect the boxes having the same color and not have other color yarn coming through. You can either stitch over at the end of the work, or you can work the last hdc st of the box stitch not into the ch2 space of the same box stitch, but into the box stitch having the same color one row below. See how it works best for you
ABBREVIATIONS:
- RS: right side
- WS: wrong side

Thank you! Giraffes are one of the sweetest creatures and I love this!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome! Please enjoy! :)
DeleteThese are getting larger and prettier. You have so much talent and, so generous. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Chelin! :) Please enjoy!
DeleteCuteness overload. Thanks for the pattern..:)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome! :)
DeleteThank You, so very much for this set of squares. I am saving all for my new G.G.grand at the end of the year.At the moment am doing a mosaic blanket for G.Grand #5 in pink and gray. Have just finished a large square for my Son to wrap himself in when he comes home from work at 3 in the morning, to watch a bit of T.V.( he is a shift worker, and likes to unwind before going to sleep) Thank you for your kindness in sharing these patterns, I for one am VERY grateful. Edith
ReplyDeleteHi Edith! You're welcome to start your graphghan anytime you want! :)
DeleteI absolutely love your designs. You are so talented!! Just curious when the elephant one is coming out. Plan on making a blanket for my grandson and would love an elephant. Thank you for sharing your talent!!
ReplyDeleteHi,the Elephant C2C Square was published yesterday. Just check out on the homepage.
DeleteThis giraffe is adorable!!! I would like to make a large blanket of just this square. Any tips on how I could do that??
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Pam
There could be many ways you could to that. One of them is to center my giraffe square into a larger background color square, that you would draw onto math paper. Or the giraffe could be on the right bottom corner placed into a large background.
DeleteI found a mistake in the written directions. Row 14: Should be 2 Green, 3 CL, ... I'm sad because I can't fix it.
ReplyDeleteIt is no mistake! You must read the even rows top down! The uneven rows bottom up. You would need to unravel and make it again. You would be surprised to know how many times I unravel a design until I like how it looks when crocheted.
DeleteI really love these and can't wait to make MORE, but am following the written directions and Row 14 is the only one I have had trouble with. Just me, most likely, but could that row be written backwards? I TRULY appreciate all the work you've put into these gorgeous squares.
ReplyDeleteHi! You are reading the chart backwards. You must read the even rows starting from the top and not from the bottom!
DeleteAny chance you might do a zebra?
ReplyDeleteHi, the Zebra will be next! Check out next days this week. :)
DeleteThis is adorable!! My daughter and I can't wait to try this one!! Giraffes are our favorite!
ReplyDeleteHi Jeni! I'm so glad you like it! It's one of my own favorites also!:)
DeleteI am struggling with the color changes, can you give more detailed instructions on how many balls of yarn and wnen you simply slip stich and join a new color and wehn you carry it from row to row. Or do you have a video?
ReplyDeleteJust finished the giraffe! I absolutely love it! This was my first graphghan & im looking forward to doing more! Thank you for sharing your pattern Kinga!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome! :)I'm glad you enjoyed making your first graphghan!
Deletehow can I get direction for giraffe and monkey
ReplyDeleteThe pattern for the giraffe is right here on the page. You could use Print Friendly site to print it out. Or copy and paste the text into a file on your pc. You can also save the graph image with the mouse right click.
DeleteWould it be possible to make this into a cushion cover? How big is the final square?
ReplyDeleteSure! All my animal squares can be turned into pillow covers. On the Wildlife Graphghan page you can find the link to the Removable C2C Pillow Cover. Or use the search bar on top right.
DeleteOn the monkey what does the "c" mean in the 14th row mean
ReplyDeletec is collor Coffee, please see the color abbreviations in the pattern.
DeleteI just found this pattern, and can't wait to get started making giraffe pillow covers for my couch. I do hope that you were serious about making a full body giraffe baby blanket pattern because I would make it a throw or lap blanket for myself. I love giraffes!!
ReplyDeleteHi, that was just an idea! :) I can't tell if and/ or when I would make it. I have so many things on my "to do list".
DeleteWell, I realized too late that I mixed up the right and wrong side, so my giraffe pillow cover ended up reversed. Still, I loved it so much I made a pattern for a whole body giraffe full size blanket. I haven't started crocheting the blanket yet because I have been so busy making your lioness, chimp, zebra, owl, and cheetah pillow covers! I would love to share the blanket pattern, because I really appreciated all of the work that you shared for free. However, 1) I'm not sure how to share it and 2) it basically uses your head pattern, but the rest of the work is mine, so if I did share it, how would you want me to credit you? I can't tell you how much I appreciate your sharing these patterns! It has made being stuck in the house enjoyable during these Covid times.
DeleteHi, I'm glad you enjoyed the patterns. However, republishing my designs as whole or just as part of something else, it's not ok. That would take away from my ad revenue, from my income. You can use it just for your own personal use. If you would like, you can contribute your part of the work as a quest post here on my blog. I will give you credit for your picture(s)and work and if you have some links to your social media sites, they will be included in the post. Thanks for understanding! Kinga
DeleteI don't have a site of my own, and I definitely don't want to take away from yours! You have been so generous already. I wish you all the best!!
DeleteThank you! Same to you!
DeleteThank you so much for this pattern. It was so easy to follow and I have made this one and the your lemur pattern up as cushions for Christmas presents for my niece and daughter using stylecraft wool as I'm in the UK. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year x
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon! You're very welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed the patterns! :)
DeleteMerry Christmas to you also! Happy New Year!
