Welcome to block 10 of the Wildlife Graphghan! We have made it through the half of the featured animals. An elephant could not miss the party! So here it is, the Elephant C2C Square, a free crochet pattern that you can find right here on My Hobby is Crochet blog!

The yarn used for this pattern was provided by Red Heart Yarns. Crochet Hook provided by Furls Crochet.

Not an easy task, to design an elephant head to fit into a square made of 25 x 25 corner to corner boxes.

As you might probably know, I’m designing each of my corner to corner crochet animals myself. I do not upload an image to Stitch Fiddle and let the program make the chart for me. It would make an unsharp image anyway in such a small square. I am pixel drawing everything myself from scratch. Sometimes it works faster, sometimes it take days until I am happy with my animal design.

The elephant it's not one of my best pixel drawings, but I hope you will like it.

The pattern for the Elephant C2C Square includes written row by row instructions for color counts follow with color pixel graph below.

For detailed instructions and video tutorials for the corner to corner method with the half double crochet used + crisp color changes, check out the CAL Page!

SUPPLIES used:

  • yarn: Red Heart Super Saver ( yarn weight: Medium 4) in 6 colors:
    1. Carrot for the background approx. 164.04 yds (150 m)
    2. Dusty Grey approx. 58.5 yds (53.5 m)
    3. Grey Heather approx. 73.82 yds (67.5 m)
    4. Black approx. 3.28 yds (3 m)
    5. Oatmeal approx. 35.54 yds (32.5 m)
    6. Soft Whiteapprox. 6.56 yds (6 m)
  • 5.5 mm crochet hook (I have used Furls Wooden Hook, Cocobolo)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

GAUGE: 6 C2C tiles = 10 x 10 cm (4 inches x 4 inches)

SIZE: the square is 25 tiles x 25 tiles and approx. measures approx. 16 inches X 16 inches (40 cm x 40 cm)

NOTES:
1. You will use the C2C with the hdc, working the square on the diagonal starting from bottom right corner to top left.

2. The even rows will be worked on the right side of work.

3. The uneven rows will be on the wrong side of work.

4. On the graphic you will read the even rows from top to bottom ↙ and the uneven rows from bottom to top ↗!

5. The first color changes will be made on the wrong side of work, an uneven row (Row 13), that means that you will bring the yarns strands to the front of your work.

ABBREVIATIONS:
- RS: right side
- WS: wrong side

Color abbreviations: (See the color legend in the graph at the end of this post)

  1. Thank you for all your c2c animals. I am 65 yrs old and the fact that you have written direction really helps me as my eye sight makes it hard to work off a graph. I look forward to more animals. THANKS AGAIN
